What "Imperfect" Means to Me

I was the kid that cried to her Mom when her new white Keds got a speck of dirt on them. I am currently the adult that obsesses over the dings and scratches on her big white #mommobile. I have and still spend too much energy on trying to keep everything exactly the way that it was at time of formation. Sure, there is something to be said about taking care of your possessions, but what I have to remind myself of is that nothing is or will ever be perfect. The white shoes will get dirty. The car will get dinged and in the grand scheme… specks, dings and scratches don’t matter. ⁣

If you are a parent, you might focus on activities like meal planning, homework, and soccer games. If you are a business owner, you might focus on customer satisfaction, organization, and employee moral. If you are a fitness enthusiast, you might focus on your next workout, macros and micros, and recovery. If you are a homeowner you might focus on lawn care, interior finishes, and home efficiency. What do all of these things have in common? IMPERFECTIONS. ⁣

No matter who you are, as opposed to working on “perfection”, try saying one of these to yourself to see if it resonates: ⁣

“I deserve time and space to myself in order to be the best (fill in the blank) I can be”. ⁣
“It is ok to receive”. ⁣
“Breaks make me stronger in mind and body”. ⁣
“The “to do” list will always be there, but the chance to do (fill in the blank) won’t”. ⁣

To sum it all up, nothing is perfect. Work on #patience (see previous post) and #persistence (see previous post). Work on doing your best and at the end of the day you will know your energy was well spent. ⁣

I love the saying “Patience + Persistence. Not Perfection.”⁣
