What "Choices" Means to Me
Choices. A word that I keep coming back to as 2019 wraps up. A word that I keep in mind as I take “sneak peeks” at 2020. Whether I am exploring my new 2020 planner or visualizing the next year, I am getting some sneak peeks and am really excited about the year ahead. I have choices.
Here is the thing. My “planning” looks a little different this year than it has in years past. Sure, I will plan on working out, meal prepping, regular doctor visits, spending time with family & friends, trips to the mountains and back to Chicago. I will plan on drinking all the ounces of water, staying dry, showing up to work and being present, and feeding my kids. These things are the easy breezy things. What is hard for me are the things that are not the day-to-day activities. The things that come up when I least expect them. The things that I don’t choose to put in my calendar and just pop up. It is hard for me to make choices on the fly.
But, as I open up my 2020 planner I am so beyond excited to choose to keep white spaces in my days and weeks. The white space resembles the unknown. The white spaces scare me. The white spaces will challenge me. The white spaces will change me. The white space resembles the times that are to come where I get to choose to say HELL YES or a firm NO. The white space resembles opportunities to connect with one of my kids or a client.
I choose to keep a lot of white space in my 2020 planner. Why? So that I can be available for a friend when they need a sounding board. So that I can say YES to my husband when he wants to take me on a last minute date. So that I can show homes to my clients when they are ready to move or sell their home. So that I can read a book to my littles at night without feeling like I need to rush out to the next thing.
